In Liberia, CARE focuses on food security, water and sanitation, women’s economic empowerment and environmentally sustainable farming. CARE aims to help build a fairer and more cohesive society where peace is consolidated and quality of life is improved.

Women’s economic empowerment

CARE works with women affected by war in the country, providing good quality chickens to families so that they can have access to better nutrition, and build a small business.

Water and sanitation

CARE assists with the technical aspects of (re)construction of water and sanitation facilities. We also promote understanding of good hygiene, and changes in behaviour, training local trainers.

Environmentally sustainable farming

Environmentally sustainable farming can provide greater stability of access to food in the long term. CARE works with the Ministry of Agriculture to build their capacity in training farmers in more sustainable and effective practices.

Over 70% of the people involved in some of these projects are women, enabling them to become stronger figures in their communities, and feed their families.
